Self-Portrait, developed as a final studio work in 1979 in completion of the Diploma of Art at Riverina College of Advanced Education. The work comprised of a low fired ceramic dish suspended from its corners to occupy the gallery space. Fresh water and a river stone were placed in the dish and over a period of two weeks the water soaked into the clay, evaporated and began to go stagnant. The work explored ideas of mutability and one’s ability to change or not according to conditions. The final iteration of the work was a performance with Wendy Teakelwhere the nature of the installation was changed through action. This final work was known asSelf-Investigation I.
